City & Guilds 2391-10: Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations

  • Objectives

    By the end of the course, candidates will be fully conversant with inspection & testing of electrical installations according to BS 7671:2008 Requirements for Electrical Installations - IEE Wiring Regulations - 17th Edition.

    Content

    The course involves 3 days of intensive training in the requirements and obligations of the 17th Edition Regulations with regard to inspection and testing of electrical installations and the statutory requirements for safe working under the Electricity at Work Regulations.

    Approach to the Course and Assessment

    Assessment will consist of:

    • A two and a half hour written paper covering the underpinning knowledge required for carrying out inspection, testing and reporting of existing electrical installations consisting of 20 short answer questions worth 60 marks 6 longer structured questions worth 90 marks.

    • A practical test covering the range of inspections and tests and reporting procedures of information and results for a periodic inspection of an electrical installation, as required by BS 7671:2008.

    City & Guilds require candidates to be registered for this course approximately 6 weeks prior to the exam date. Please make sure you have made the Training Centres aware of the candidates name and date of birth.

    Candidates for this course are required to bring with them a copy of the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations the IEE On-site Guide and IEE Guidance note 3 - Inspection & Testing. These can be obtained through the IEE Publications Departments (tel:01438 313311).

    We strongly recommend pre-course reading is undertaken.

    **Please note that C&G 2391 remains a current qualification - the alterations in 2391-10 reflect incorporation of the new wiring regulations and adjustments of content. There is currently no requirement for learners to take 2391-10 if they have previously achieved 2391.**

    Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this qualification. However, it would be expected that candidates have a basic knowledge and understanding of electrical science and principles and the ability to carry out fundamental inspection, testing and verification; and ideally have successfully passed the 2392-10 examination

    Audience

    This course is aimed at practicing electricians who have carried out initial verifications on electrical installations and require further training in periodic inspection, testing and reporting. It is not suitable for those coming into the industry with limited experience of inspection and testing (the Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification, 2392-10, is intended for this purpose).
