Safe Operation of HV/LV Electrical Systems (Refresher)

• Objectives

  To refresh candidates understanding and knowledge of safe systems of work, for tasks on or near electrical equipment at LV and HV to 11kV.

  Content

  This is a compressed version of the 5 day training course for experienced engineers.

  • Current legislation. E.A.W regs, P.U.W.E.R and the management regs.

  • Practical isolation and safe fault finding techniques on L.V motor circuits

  • Power systems protection overview, motor protection, feeder protection, transformer protection and basic generator protection

  • Familiarisation with the Engineering Academy's H.V switchgear simulator

  • Prepare switching schedules

  • Practical switching exercises

  • Fault finding on H.V switchgear

  • The faults will be control faults, power faults on the H.V circuits and mechanical faults on the switchgear

  Audience

  Personnel involved in the operation and maintenance of industrial and power generation plant.
